SOUTHAMPTON'S ALTERNATIVE
The Bear is an internet only radio station, run by keen amateur radio lovers in Southampton. The station plays a mix of music leaning towards rock and indie, as well as specialist podcasts on various topics including politics, sport, movies and more.
We are now accepting applications for members, both on-air and off-air, as well as podcasts. Plus our crowdfunding campaign is ongoing; we are accepting individual donations and seeking sponsors. If you love radio please give what you can to keep the station on air!

The Bear features lots of great shows with presenters right here in Southampton. Here’s a brief selection of some of our great homegrown shows:
Mondays @ 8pm
Two hours of music and spoken word content set around a different topic each week.
Tuesday @ 8pm
Join Al "Bear" Galpin for some great music, plus features like the Mystery Hold Music, The Cover Chain & The Weird Week That Was.
Thursdays @ 8pm
Interviews with the great and good, plus musical selections from host Doctor Squee.
Saturdays @ 7pm
Gem Swallow brings you an hour of great feel good music to get your Saturday evening of to the perfect start.

Stand-up Comedian Tiernan Douieb brings the latest episodes of his comedy political podcast to the station every Wednesday.

Who Are We?
The Bear is a collection of keen amateur radio lovers, presenters and podcasters; coming together to create a new station for Southampton.
How Can You Get Involved?
If you’re a budding presenter, or have a podcast or song you’d love to get onto our playlist, you can get in touch and maybe join The Bear!
We are an online community radio station serving the city of Southampton and surrounding areas.
We are made up of amateur presenters, producers and podcasters; all working from home for free to bring you some great entertainment.
We’re also a podcast network, creating a collaborative and friendly environment as well as providing new opportunities for podcasters.

We are also listed on Tune In and Get Me Radio, so you can find us on their apps which are available on iOS, Alexa, Google Home, Roku, Fire TV, Android TV and more.

We mainly play a mix of music covering Indie, Rock, Contemporary Country. However each of our live shows are different and some DJ’s will play a variety of different genres.
We also have specialist music shows, including Folk, Traditional Country, Blues and Northern Soul. You can hear all of those on Sunday evenings.
As well as great music we also play great podcasts, with news discussion, comedy, sport, interviews and more.
Absolutely you can! If a show is live the presenter will be happy to receive any of your requests. You can email the individual presenter email address that they may read out on air.
Also we have the Request Show every weekday 3-6pm and All Request Sunday from 10am til 8pm. You can head to our Requests page and choose your track from our library!
Please do not use the contact form on the website to send requests, the presenter will not see these.

If you have a song you want to be played on The Bear, just drop us a message via the Submit Music form. Tell us about your music and upload tracks so we can check them out. If we like it we’ll add it to our rotation!
